Volunteers are an amazing resource at Congdon Park.  Please click VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES and fill out the online form indicating where you would like to help out.  You will be contacted in the fall by the chair of any committee you signed up for.  While we would of course love for you to be a member of the PTA, you do not have to be a member in order to volunteer.  (paper copy attached)

The PTA has started it’s One and Done Direct Appeal Fundraiser.  This is the only PTA fundraiser for the year if we reach our goal of $22,000.  Last year our budget was over $34,000. Every dollar helps us reach our goal and is recognized equally; no contribution is too small.   No door-to-door sales, no hundreds of volunteer hour auctions, and almost 100% profit for the school.  Forms available outside the office if needed or go on-line to give at: www.givemn.org/congdonparkpta (Paper copy attached)

School Garden Announcement

Thank you to the over 50 people who volunteered time and/or resources this summer to the new Congdon School Community Garden..  The garden is thriving due to everyone's efforts!  Stop by and explore.  A special thanks to the following organizations and businesses that donated to the garden:

  • Keegan Hartley of Bella Terra Designs, who provided vision, expertise and equipment for the garden design & project.

  • Loll Designs - Donated 8 raised beds made from sustainable products. 2 of the beds are accessible and over 600 milk jugs were used in the production of the materials.

  • Compost and mulch donation by the City of Duluth and Western Lake Superior Sanitary District

  • Mulch donated by Rick's Tree Service

  • Duluth Rotary Members who helped during the weekend garden build days.

  • The Duluth Community Garden for their support of the Duluth school garden initiative and tool loan.   We want to especially thank Jamie Zak who provided leadership, inspiration, resources and models to help us sustain the project and engage the community.

  • Lunches donated by GB Schneider of Duluth and Lake Ave Cafe.

This year's Harvest Festival will be Thursday, September 19.  Students are invited to bring in produce or flowers they grew over the summer for display.  Families are invited to view the student entries and enjoy salsa and chips made from produce grown in the new Congdon School Community Garden.  There will be a Community Open House at the school as well, 3:00- 7:00 pm.  Watch for more details.

Congdon Park Directory - The Directory is a wonderful tool the PTA is excited to offer to Congdon Park Families.  This year we are asking families to complete the online form for entry in the directory (saving more paper!)  The form will take you 3 short minutes to complete.  Participation is voluntary, however, if you are not interested in being listed, we

ask you still take a moment to fill out this form and check the appropriate box.  We hope to have the updated directory published and out to families in the beginning of October.  If you have any questions, please contact Nicole Widdes at nicwidd@gmail.com or 391-8812.  (Paper copy attached)

The Congdon library is looking for volunteers!  Come meet our new librarian, Linda Eason, and enjoy getting to know the children and teachers of Congdon Park.  The main duties are checking books in and out and shelving book.  Don't worry if you've never helped in the library before.  Experienced volunteers are always willing to help and there are volunteer notes at the desk available to help with any questions you might have.

We use VolunteerSpot for many of our volunteer sign ups.  Sign up for a regularly scheduled day or just one or two days.  Whatever works best for you.

Have you checked out the Give with Target campaign on Facebook?  There is a link on the Congdon Park Parents FB page.  Click on the link, vote for Congdon Park and earn money for our school.  The first 25 votes, gets us a $25 gift card.  It gets better…  every additional vote equals another $1.  GIVE WITH TARGET  Target is awarding up to 5 million dollars to schools.  Voting ends September 21st, so vote today and again next week.  We are currently at 178 votes.  Send the link to friends and family and ask them to vote for Congdon Park.  Wouldn’t it be great to get to $300?!
