Don’t forget the PTA Meeting this Thursday, May 14th at noon in the PTA room.  We need your input! Voting for officers will take place...and many other fun and exciting things will be discussed.  You don’t want to miss it!






A big THANK YOU to our wonderful Congdon parents who bought items and donated cash at our bake sale for the three families who lost everything in the apartment fire during the April break!!!   Congdon staff held the sale the night of the Talent Show; everyone was so very generous!  We received $948 in cash and also three Target and three Walgreen’s gift cards that were divided between the three families!!!  THANK YOU, thank you, thank you!!! Volunteer Appreciation Night, Thursday, May 28th from 5:00-7:00pm at Blackwoods on London Road.  Come enjoy appetizers provided by the Congdon PTA.  Anyone who has volunteered at Congdon this year in ANY capacity is welcome to stop in.




The 3rd through 5th grade students will be participating in the Fit and Fun Run on Wednesday, May 20th at Public School Stadium (Denfeld High School).  Buses will load at 8:50am, the students will run at approximately 9:10am and return to school at 9:55am.





Please check the lost and found for any items that you child may have left behind.  We have collected a hallway full of quality items.  All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the year so don’t miss your chance to reclaim them!  






Thursday, May 21 will be Bike & Walk To School Day at Congdon Park Elementary.  Join us for a fun and energizing way to arrive ready to learn! Students who bike or walk to school the morning of the 21st will receive a free t-shirt. Also, during the Month of May we're encouraging Walking/Biking to school on Wednesdays.  





Mark your calendars for the Congdon Plant Sale Friday, May 29th 2:15 -6:00pm  

Organic edible & perennial plants for sale to support the Congdon Park School & Community Garden Program. Vegetable of the Year: POTATO growing demos. WLSSD will be on site to provide compost info & tips.  Upcoming projects the sale will support: School Art Classes will "Up-Cycle" Outdoor Classroom cement benches with tile mosaics; Class Gardening Projects; & Saving for a Green House.   



If you have perennials that can be split and shared, please consider donating to the Congdon Park Annual Plant Sale. Donations of potted perennials can be dropped off the day of the sale at the school front door or in the atrium if the weather is poor. Donations can also be dropped off earlier that week if needed, please contact Betsy Schwartz (bschwar1ster@gmail.com) to arrange a drop off time.

The 7th ANNUAL CONGDON COUGAR CHASE Saturday, May 30th, 2015 at Lester Park in Duluth, MN.

Join us Saturday, May 30, 2015 for the 7th annual Congdon Cougar Chase Kitty K, 1K, 5K, & 10K.  The CCC is the largest fundraiser for the Congdon Park Foundation.  This year all race proceeds will go to the purchase of 35 Google Nexus 7 tablets, software and charging cart.  In addition to the race t-shirt the CCC will be offering pre-order tech shirts.  This order form along with the pledge sheet and paper registration will be coming home with students soon.  Online registration can be completed at https://register.chronotrack.com/reg/form?eventID=13097

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES



Camp Esquagama

A traditional summer camp experience in the Northwoods, not too far away in Gilbert, MN.  Offering day camp and traditional sleep away camp for kids 4-17. See attached for youth camp schedule and fees.  The camp also will be providing transportation for anyone who wants or needs it from Miller Hill Mall in Duluth.




Rookie Rugby


With the help of UMD’s 2x national championship rugby team, the YMCA is starting a rookie rugby program for boys and girls ages 7-15.  This is a safe, non-contact, easy to play game that introduces the basics of rugby. Wednesdays, June 10th-August 19th from 5-6:30pm at the upper field at Lowell.  Cost is $50.  Go to www.duluthymca.org to register. Questions? 2015 Duluth East Youth Football Registration for Grades 3-8th, will be held at Ordean East Middle school, May 27th and May 28th from 5-7pm, in the lobby.

Football practice will Start Aug. 10th. We will run a 4 day Skill Camp July 27th-July 30th from 5:00-7:30pm.  See attached flyer for more information.





Bring a Friend Square Dance, Friday, May 29th 7:00-8:30pm at Hermantown Middle School, Ugstad and West Arrowhead Road.  It’s free!  Learn introduction to formations, movements and calls of Square Dancing at the basic levels.  Ages 8-98.  Benefits include: lots of laughter, a lifetime of fun, challenges your memory, meet people 8-98, a healthy family activity, easy to learn, great for mind, body and soul, get your 10k steps in one dance!  Kids must be accompanied by parent or guardian.  Email harborsquares@gmail.com for more information.



Interested in competitive cheerleading?  Join Ideal Cheer Elite!  Learn under dedicated coaches that are safety certified and have over 25 years of combined experience.  Available to boys and girls of all ages, all levels, all schools.  Open gyms May 17th & 24th from 2-4pm.
